Barbara Haddrill captured the imagination of the world’s press when she set off on a low carbon journey to Brisbane to be a bridesmaid at her best friend’s wedding. The journey changed her life and led to a world-wide debate about air travel. The world followed her journey, travelling overland by boat, train, truck, bike and boots, from the Trans-Siberian to the Mekong Delta. Getting to the other side of the world without flying proved to be an immense feat of emotional resilience, pre-trip planning, on the hoof decision making and ultimately painful compromise. Did she make it? This is the inside story of her epic journey, painting a compelling picture of the world you find when you take the route less travelled.
